Carolyn Sawyer Temple

March 28, 1937 — July 2, 2013

CAROLYN SAWYER TEMPLE, 76, of Paris, succumbed to a long illness on July 2, 2013 at Brentwood Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. Saturday July 13, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Robert L. Spencer, Jr. and Rev. Gary Regan officiating. Interment will be held privately by her family at a later date.
Following the service at the church, friends and family are invited to a reception to be held at Starrett Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Carolyn was born March 29, 1937 in Longview, Texas, the only child of Sybil Marie and Jim Drew Sawyer. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1955, and in 1959 graduated from Baylor University School of Nursing, beginning her career with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and serving as a Registered Nurse. She moved with her family to Paris in 1969, and was active as a homemaker as well as in the community. She was a former member of the Board of the Paris Independent School District, and served as a foster mother for young mothers and for young newborns awaiting adoption. Additionally, she worked for years as a caterer, co-owning a well-known Paris company, "Celebrate!", with close friend Judy Cobb. She taught medical terminology at Paris Junior College, and later returned to nursing, when she became Director of Nursing at Paris Oaks Assisted Living. Carolyn was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church of Paris and the Northeast Texas Emmaus community.

She is survived by her four sons, Blake Temple and wife Jodie, of Missouri, Brian Temple and wife Lauren, of Houston, and Dr. Drew Temple and Allen Temple, both of Paris. There was a deep and special bond between Carolyn and her grandchildren, who affectionately called her, "Mit," and the lives of Sam Temple, Emily Temple, Ellen Claire Temple, Jack Temple, Sarah Temple, Hannah Temple, and Grace Ann Temple will be forever affected by her love and care.

The family wishes to thank Dr. G. Bert Strom, Becki Norment, PA-C, and the entire staff of Brentwood Terrace for their loving and compassionate care.
