MARIE BRYANT, 83, of Detroit, passed from this life on Tuesday January 12, 2010 at the Clarksville Nursing Center. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct graveside rites at 2:00 p.m. on Friday January 15, 2010 in the Kanawha Cemetery, with Rev. Dennis Cates officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bryant was born December 17, 1926 in Collinsville, a daughter of James Samuel and Daisy Jane Isabell Mitchell Walker. She was a graduate of Collinsville schools, a homemaker, and a longtime member of the Woodland United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. Her greatest joy was being with her family. She was an avid Bingo player at the Clarksville Nursing Center, and enjoyed all the activities there and never missed a Sunday service. No one loved chocolate more than Marie did.
She married Sam Bryant on April 21, 1952 in Texarkana, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1981.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sam; and by a grandson, Brad "Boe" Powell.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Bryant, of Powderly, Michael Bryant and Douglas Bryant, both of Kanawha; three daughters, Mary Ann Hoskins and husband Larry, of Addielou, Linda Akers, of Detroit and Paula Akers, of Kanawha; nine grandchildren, Jeffery Hoskins, Amy Guest, Coley Bryant, Scott Powell, Jay Bryant, Bryan Hoskins, Sam Bryant, Vance Bryant, and Brandon Akers; five great-grandchildren, Maddison Hoskins, Mackenzie Hoskins, Hailey Hoskins, Trace Hoskins, and Brody Bryant; and a sister, Jean Ramey, of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Named as pallbearers are her grandsons, Jeffrey Hoskins, Coley Bryant, Jay Bryant, Bryan Hoskins, Sam Bryant, Vance Bryant, and Brandon Akers. Named as honorary pallbearers are Scott Powell and Bobby George.
