Janie H Cantre

February 27, 1960 — December 5, 2015

JANIE HAZEL BURNETT CANTRE, 55, of Paris, left this life to be with her Lord on Saturday December 5, 2015 at Paris Regional Medical Center. Starrett Funeral Home was in charge of cremation arrangements, and her family will host a private memorial event in the near future.

Janie was born February 27, 1960 in Galveston, and was the adopted daughter of Bernie Joe and Hazel Inez Neissler Burnett. She attended public schools in Roxton, then joined the U.S. Marines, being discharged honorably following her service. She was a woman of love, whose greatest joy was the time spent with her grandchildren, the lights of her life. An accomplished seamstress, she was the president of the sewing guild at her church, Freedom Tabernacle Church of God in Christ. Spending time in the kitchen preparing delicious meals for her family and friends gave her great happiness. She was loved by all who knew her, and will be missed.

On March 24, 1988 she married Fidel Cantre in Paris, and together they shared twenty-seven years of family and memories. He survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Christopher Lassetter and wife Jennifer, of Paris and Joseph Smith and wife Janice, of Avant, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Killian Lassetter, Aidan Lassetter, Joseph Smith, Jr., and Bryanna Smith; a brother, Christopher Wayne Burnett, of Nashville, Tennessee; three sisters, Cindy Clements, of Paris, Sue Burnett, of Paris, and Sherry Tharp, of Gonzales, Texas; and her blood mother, Margaret Stewart, of Gonzales.

In addition to her adoptive parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother.
