JARVIS J. HOWARD, 80, of the Hopewell community, passed from this life Monday July 26, 2010 at Baylor Heart Center in Plano. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday July 29, 2010 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home. Interment with full Masonic rites will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Howard was born July 12, 1930 in the Ragtown community of Lamar County, a son of Isaac J. "Ike" and Mattie B. Brumley Howard. He attended Lamar County schools, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Paris. Jarvis was a retired printer, having worked for Cannon Printing, Swaim Printing and First Baptist Church. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator. A Master Mason, he was a member of Collins Lodge No. 356 and was active in all aspects of the lodge some forty years.
He married the former Patricia Ann Greeson on June 2, 1962 in Paris. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2003.
In addition to his wife Patricia, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Howard and Jackie Walker Howard; and by two sisters, Nola Roach and Sylvian Dollins.
He is survived by a son, Dewayne Howard and wife Linda, of Sumner; a daughter, Viola Holloway and husband Tracy, of Waxahachie; six grandchildren, Heather Richard and husband Shane, Chad Bird and wife Amanda, Kristen Howard, Melinda Stegall and husband Josh, Melissa Beadles-Hill, and Blake Beadles; a special friend, Hazel Doyle, of Paris; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce Poteet, Harold Bird, Paul Green, Thomas Roach, Scott Roach, and Billy Porter. Named as honorary pallbearers are Red Thornton and Phred Matthews.
