MARIE HARRIS FIGGINS, 73, of Paris, passed from this life Tuesday June 25, 2013 at Stillhouse Health and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am. Saturday June 29, 2013 in the chapel of Starrett Funeral Home, with Donald Carnathan officiating. Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Gardens Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:o0 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Marie was born March 26, 1940 in Pittsburg, TX, where she was raised by her parents, Drew and Myrtice Carnathan Cooke. She was a graduate of Pittsburg High School. Throughout her adult life she exhibited a love of arts and crafts, and was noted as a stained glass artist, jewelry maker, and avid gardener. She lived with her husband John in Mobile, Alabama from 1968 until his retirement, at which time they moved to Paris in 1999. While in Mobile she was active in the Sweet Adelines. Her years in Paris found her involved in the Tejas Garden Club, and the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.
Marie married John W. Figgins on June 6, 1959 in Channelview, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Billie Wilson.
Marie leaves behind her husband John; two sons, Wesley Figgins and wife Susan of Mesquite and Russell Figgins and wife Robyn, of Paris; six grandsons, James Bufford, Matthew Bufford, Jonathan Figgins, Daniel Elam, Andrew Whitehouse, and Kyle Fonville; six granddaughters, Jennifer Bufford, Katie Bufford, Kendahl Bufford, Robyn Elam, Amy Whitehouse and Katie Fonville; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Elledge, of Garland and Maurice Morris, of Orlando, Florida.
Named to serve as pallbearers are Matthew Bufford, Jonathan Figgins, Trey White, Daniel Elam, Andrew Whitehouse and Kyle Fonville.
