OPAL DRAKE, 87, of Paris, passed from this life to eternal glory on Sunday January 29, 2012 in Paris. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday February 1, 2012 at Pathway International Church of God, with Rev. Troy Drake and Rev. Dverle Archer officiating. Interment will follow in McDonald Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Drake was born June 29, 1924 in King, Corynell County, Texas, a daughter of Argus Jim and Dovie Melinda Miller Featherston. She was a homemaker, and spent many years working in the cafeteria of Crockett Middle School. She loved gospel music, her Lord, and her family. She ministered in song, music and preaching for many years in churches the country.
She married Deroy Drake in 1941 in Hidalgo County, and he preceded her in death in 2001.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
Survivors include two sons, Roy Drake and wife Virginia, of Golden and Troy Drake and wife Tonya, of Paris; twelve grandchildren, Woody Drake, Donnie Drake, Christi Huff, Christina Drake, Reginda Walker, Darren Fishback, Cindy Fishback, Patrick Drake, Jonathan Drake, and Letitia Hager Creech; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Inez Robinson, of Canton; a sister-in-law, Monterrey George, of Montana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Named to serve as pallbearers are Roy Drake, III, Tyler Huff, Benjamin Drake, Jacob Drake, Cade Drake, Woody Drake, Michael Adley, and Darren Fishback.
