Sammie Whittington

SAMMIE PENDERGRASS WHITTINGTON, 60, of Paris, passed from this life on Thursday February 11, 2010 at Paris Regional Medical Center. Following cremation arrangements by Starrett Funeral Home, a memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday February 18, 2010 at Providence Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael King officiating.

Sammie was born February 13, 1949 in Hugo, a son of Sammie and Norma Carney Whittington, Sr. The family moved to Paris and he graduated from Paris High School, then attended Paris Junior College. He was a brick mason by trade, was a Paramedic, and had served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Gina Smith on August 25, 1994 in Hugo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a son-in-law Tommy Layton.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cendy Layton, of Reno; two step-sons, Robert and Donald Dickieson, both of Madill, OK; two grandchildren, Justin Tidwell and Shelbey Layton; one great-granddaughter, Presley Monroe Tidwell; six step-grandchildren; a sister, Linda Newsome, of Cummings, GA; a brother, Freddie Cline, of Milton, Florida; and his beloved cat, Sissybaby Prettygirl.
