Tom E E Wood

August 11, 1950 — November 26, 2013

TOM E. WOOD, 63, of Petty, while in Tulsa, Oklahoma seeking medical treatment for cancer, received his ultimate healing on Tuesday November 26, 2013, as he was taken to be with his Lord. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday December 3, 2013 at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, with Patrick Cannon officiating. Others to celebrate and honor Tom's life will be Gene Stallings, Dr. Don Crockett, and Richard Peace, each to share their love and gratitude for their friend.

Tom was born August 12, 1950 in Big Spring, the only child of Buel E. and Dena M. Wood. He was a graduate of Big Spring schools, then had a full scholarship to The University of Texas, where he majored in Engineering. In 2006 he retired from a District Manager position with UPS. The most important thing in Tom's life were his faith, family, involvement with his beloved Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, and above all, God's Word. Found in Tom's Bible were his handwritten words, "What I think about God is the most important thing about me." Faithful and true, he could always give account of his love for Christ and the Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father-in-law Chester R. Jackson, who loved him like a son

On June 6, 1998 Tom married the former Joanne Jackson in Heath and began a new chapter of life. Survivors include his wife; six children, Matt Wood, Sam Wood, Eric Wood, Shane Prestridge and wife Gina, Amy Owens and husband Doug, and Ty Prestridge and wife Stacy; six grandchildren, Katie Prestridge, Chloe Prestridge, Langdon Chancellor, Lexie Chancellor, Ridge Owens and Reed Owens; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Jackson; and three siblings, Jeannine Jackson, Kathy McNutt and husband Aubrey and Scott Jackson and wife Suzanne; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends among the greatest being his feline buddies Kitty and Bevo and man's best friend, Jack.
